3-5th January, 2009 - Italy came to Harrow Our Italian 'family' made a surprise short visit to Harrow and we spent a busy but enjoyable couple of days with them shopping and sightseeing in London.
20th - 27th December, 2008 - Christmas week in Spain A wonderful week of celebrating and sharing this time of year with a very good friend. We ate and drank, visited other friends and had a very good time! It was, however, noticeably quiet as far as tourism was concerned. Thanks to all at Taras Restaurant for a great 'first night' reunion dinner and Cavalier Pub for the Christmas lunch. I have never seen so much energy displayed by the staff who fed approximately 70 people with a 5-course Christmas dinner and then provided entertainment. A great 'British' effort! I can also recommend the Indian Restaurant at Urb. Dona Pepa in Rojales as well as The Little Don Carlos Irish Pub.
15th November, 2008 - Seven Valley & Bridgnorth At last Mike gets to visit his place of birth, the old building shown in Bridgnorth being the 'old' Royal Infirmary. It turned out to be a very long day departing Harrow around 05:30 to get all the connections via London Marylebone to Birmingham Moor Street, change for Kidderminster, taxi link to Bewdley and then on the Seven Valley Railway to Bridgnorth, having to repeat the journey a few hours later - but well worth it!
October, 2008 - America 1999 New American page added with 'scanned' images recently located of vacation which involved a 2-day drive (each way) between Baltimore and Florida. In Florida, we stayed in private accomodation in Orange Lake Country Club and visted Disney World and The Kennedy Space Centre. More images to follow taken at a visit to an Alligator Farm!
14-19th September, 2008 - Torrevieja, Spain. We celebrated our 32nd Wedding Anniversary with friends while enjoying a brief escape from the English weather. We all had a great time and enjoyed some very pleasant evenings trying different restaurants and cuisine with noteable comment for Cucina Italiana at Urb. Dona Pepa, Rojales and Taras Restaurant on Urb. San Luis.
7th August, 2008 - The Bluebell Railway on the borders of East and West Sussex. On this day, I travelled to East Grinstead [End of Line] from Clapham Junction and took the 473 special bus service to Kingscote.
22nd July, 2008 - Kew Gardens in Richmond. A very interesting location to spend the day for those of you who enjoy being among nature. The aircraft noise is a bit intrusive but after a while enjoying what the gardens have to offer that blends into the background.
10-16th July, 2008 - Sindelfingen and Stuttgart in Germany. Had we known how beautiful Sindelfingen, Stuttgart and the surrounding German countryside was, we would have visited the region a long time ago! A very big thank you goes to our families who showed us such wonderful hospitality and made this one of our best short breaks yet - if only this could have been a long break! We hope the images reflect how wonderful this area of Germany is. One of the many memorable moments was a tour of the Mercedes Benz Museum and the Factory in Singelfinden, some 3 square kilometres in size and employing in the region of 38,000 people working in 3 8-hour shifts to produce a variant of Mercedes classes! The assembly line was a fascinating visit and we watched in awe at the technical prowess of the robots that were used in many parts of the assembly process. Watching a drivers console being fitted into a body shell by a robot with amazing precision was memorable. A car took 4 days from start to completion.
5-15th May 2008 - Images of Cyprus taken in and around The Elysium Hotel in Paphos. One of our best holidays yet.
22nd April 2008 - Images of Hyde Park in London. Taken while accompanying a group of Italian friends visiting London for the first time. A great day weatherwise and only one slight mishap - three of the group ended up in the 'Big Pond' near Kensington Palace - a word of warning, the edge is extremely slippery!
1st April 2008 - Images of Denham Village in Buckinghamshire.
26th March 2008 - Images of Bekonscot Model Village at Beconsfield visited on a haily, snowy and cold, Bank Holiday Monday.
21st March 2008 - Turkey at last appears in the Album. Although we have briefly passed through Istanbul and Ephesus on previous holidays, the images were in 'old-style' film and as yet, have not been located so that they can be scanned and turned into digital copies for posting on the site. meanwhile, with thanks to Fahrettin Togluk, a friend at our local Turkish Restaurant, Kebabland, Harrow, we have now been able to post some images which will be added to as time passes and more become available. Although the site has gained permission to post these images, they still remain the copyright of the author, Fahrettin Togluk. Further information about the area can be found at: http://www.hasankeyf.blogspot.com/
5th January 2008 - We return from Sassacci near Civita Castellana north of Rome having spent a wonderful 10 days with our Italian family. Their hospitality knows no bounds and we were 'dined and wined', not only at our second home but also when visiting relatives in the region just to the north east of Civita near to the lovelly old medieval borough of Fianello. We also had an opportunity to spend a couple of days visiting some sites and those visits included the Etruscan Necropolis at Cerveteri which is a uniquely haunting archaeological site built by this prosperous people between the seventh and the third centuries BC. Another day out was to view the old city of Viterbo, again, charming buildings and small streets now having to bare the vagaries of modern traffic which they were not originally designed for. You have to watch your back when window shopping! We also visited the Palazzo Farnese near Rome which is one of the most imposing Italian palaces of the sixteenth century. All-in-all, we had a great time and some of the pictures are now on the web site at italycivxmasalbums where you will find 4 albums with flash photo presentations accompanied by audio (which can be turrned off if desired!).
10th December 2007 - As with the Tuscany photos, we have now scanned the images of an earlier trip to Scicily. The trip was quite a while ago and we cannot remember exactly what year we went, hence no mention of it! Needless to say, before the times of digital cameras but with the help of some very useful scanning software called Vuescan and the proverbial Photoshop, we think we have managed to capture the essence of the original glossy images which were quite numerous!
1st December 2007 - Finally, we got round to preparing the old photos from our visit to the Tuscany region of Italy. We hope you enjoy. Bear in mind that these were taken in the days before digital cameras so the old film images have been scanned and 'played about with'.
20th November 2007 - If you would like to display your personal images (see below), publically or privately, contact theimagealbum attaching your images, and include any text that you would like to use based on the presentations as depicted in the Flash slideshows shown on the site. If you want to keep the slideshow private, we will create a password for you which you can change should you so wish, and let you know by email when we confirm the site is uploaded and published. IMAGES - no more than 14 images per page and content will be monitored. We suggest places visited, the main theme of the site, animals, birds, etc, countryside scenes or particular events. Image resolution/size nothing less than 640 x 480 please.
7th October 2007 - Slideshow and video added showing Helen and Siobahn Blake in concert, held on Saturday, 6th October 2007 in aid of Ani's dream and St Luke's Hospice at Our Lady and St Thomas of Canterbury Church, Harrow-on-the-Hill.
6th October 2007 - Slideshow added of recent visit to Torrevieja, Alicante, Spain. 26th September 2007 - In addition to some 'stills', video has been added for Red Bull Air Race - be warned, a bit jumpy and taken with a digital still camera (SONY T20). A good day was had at the event held on the Thames between the Thames Barrier and Canary Wharf. A huge thanks to Urban Space Management at Trinity Buoy Wharf for extending an invitation. The event was quite spectacular.
24th September 2007 - New pages added for Jacky and Noel's Wedding Reception (22nd September 2007) held at the Harrow Hotel. These images are for 'family viewing' and can only be accessed by entering a password. Please note that the images are those as taken by us on the night. Jacky and Noel have been approached with regards to placing some of the professional images on this site for family viewing and further discussion will take place when they return from their weeks break! A further 12 images taken in Harrow Recreation Ground have been added to Album Two
For L'Ouverture staff there are some brief video extracts taken during the SHOWCASE 2007 performance. These can be accessed through the L'Ouverture Icon on the British Destinations page with the appropriate password! The videos were converted to Flash from MPEG which were taken on a Cybershot T20 camera so do not expect high-res footage! In addition, some images taken from the original Bag Lady performance have been added in the form of a slideshow with music. This site is also 'password protected' and accessible by staff only! Permission to view these images may be requested through theimagealbum link on the 'About' page!
The audio tracks that accompany the slideshows were selected from the music.download.com site and it
is our aim to further publicise this music on behalf of the musicians who created it.
